Golden Mile Steps

Today we became the first school in the country to trial the new Golden Mile Steps initiative. It involves children walking for 20 seconds, jogging for 20 seconds and running for 20 seconds (if they are able to). The idea is that it gives all the children some exercise to help their fitness and to help their concentration. We will do this early in the morning to prepare them for the day.

I will trial it and let you know how it goes!

Do the children do this in their uniform each morning?

At the start of our outdoor PE lesson we walk one lap of the field and run two. The children really enjoy it, especially as it's really muddy at the moment.

We're hoping to enter a team in a cross country race in the near future.

Yes, the children do this in uniform. Part of the trial involves us staff giving comments about the initiative. I think one of the problems is that they do the exercise in uniform and then they would remain in uniform for the rest of the day.
